Latin Mythos

Melbourne, Australia – Lynne Alexander Art Gallery presents Latin Mythos, a group exhibition bringing together six contemporary Latin American artists whose works explore the richness of myths, legends, ancestral knowledge, and cultural traditions that have shaped their identities.

The exhibition will open on Sunday, 9 August 2026 - 4-6 pm, in recognition of UNESCO’s International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples. Through diverse artistic languages and contemporary practices, Latin Mythos invites audiences to explore how ancestral narratives continue to inspire Latin American contemporary art, creating connections between memory, identity, territory, and cultural heritage.

The exhibition features six artists representing diverse Latin American backgrounds, each offering a unique perspective on the cultural roots, stories, and traditions of the region:

Curated by José Ortiz and Andrea Vargas, Latin Mythos creates a dialogue between ancestral traditions and contemporary artistic expressions, highlighting the role of art as a bridge between cultures and as a powerful way to preserve collective memory and identity.

The opening celebration will feature a special performance by Smoko Theatre, followed by an artist talk with the exhibiting artists and curatorial team, offering audiences the opportunity to discover the stories, creative processes, and concepts behind each artwork.
