Short Artist Statement — Andrea Vargas

I am a Chilean-born Latin American artist based in Melbourne whose work is guided by the poetry of Gabriela Mistral and the elemental forces that shape identity and emotion. Through ceramics, mixed media, and installation, I explore transformation, beginning with my Water exhibition on movement and healing and now developing a Fire series inspired by Mistral’s poem “Fire”.

Living in Elwood for over five years has strongly influenced my visual language, blending Chilean storytelling with the colours, rhythms, and landscapes of Australia. Clay remains at the heart of my practice for its ability to hold gesture and memory. I also share my creative process through ceramic charm workshops that invite community and personal storytelling.
