My Goddesses: Images in suspension
The series of sculptures titled My Goddesses is a visceral manifestation of my deeply personal journey toward self-creation and the pursuit of a spiritual home. These aren't depictions of existing mythological figures; rather, they are the idols of a self-invented religion, a theology born entirely from my own imagination and needs.
Exhibition Statement
The creation of this pantheon directly interprets my desire to forge my own faith. Each sculpture embodies a different aspect of strength, guidance, and unconditional acceptance that I found lacking in my formative years. The pieces are an attempt to formalise and sanctify my inner world, giving tangible form to abstract spiritual concepts.
The profound absence of a strong, defining mother figure in my life acted as the primary catalyst for this artistic and spiritual endeavour. This void necessitated a radical act of creation: I had to sculpt my own source of divine, nurturing feminine power. By creating these goddesses, I have not only acknowledged that absent authority but have actively replaced it with figures I could control, figures that offer the specific solace and validation I required. The artwork, therefore, becomes a powerful, self-healing ritual, a way to build a personal spiritual structure where I could be eternally mothered and eternally free.
